The Science You Need To Know
Primitive Reflexes

You will have heard me talking about the critical importance of Primitive Reflexes in our FREE GUIDE and in our PODCAST SERIES, "My Mighty Quinn".

In Podcast Episode 5, Lucia discusses the importance of addressing these reflexes with our amazing leading functional neurologist, Doctor Josh Madsen. You will hear him describing the extraordinary transformations he sees in kids when Primitive Reflexes are inhibited.

What are PRIMITIVE REFLEXES?

How do they affect Children's Development?

Primitive Reflexes develop in the brain stem before birth and are necessary for our ability to navigate the birth process, the first breath, feeding, urination, survival, and development.

In typical development, these reflexes naturally inhibit in sequential order during the first year, and are replaced by Postural Reflexes.

Postural Reflexes are more mature patterns of response that control balance, coordination, and sensory-motor development.

Developmental Delays

Primitive Reflexes that do not inhibit (sometimes referred to as integrate) successfully can lead to developmental delays.

If Primitive Reflexes are still present long after they should have gone away, this can lead to struggles related to ADHD, sensory processing disorder, autism, and other learning disabilities.

The persistence of Primitive Reflexes interferes with the neurological organisation of the brain. When reflexes are retained, specific challenges and obstructions are created with coordination, balance, sensory perceptions, fine motor skills, sleep, immunity, energy levels, impulse control, concentration, and all levels of social, emotional, and academic learning.

The Good News...

The good news is that these Primitive Reflexes CAN be integrated. And we know that connections, or information pathways in the brain CAN change and develop in ways that will lead to improvements in these symptoms.

The Brain Health Movement promotes a science backed, non-invasive, movement-focused approach that improves and builds the correct foundations for development and brain connectivity, rather than masking symptoms or coping with them for life.

"My Mighty Quinn" Podcast Series

If you want to hear more about how Primitive Reflexes affected Quinn, the son of The Brain Health Movement's founder Lucia, and the work they did to inhibit these active Primitive Reflexes through a movement based program, take a listen to our Podcast series "My Mighty Quinn".

In this Podcast you will deep dive into the heart of neurological challenges, debunk myths, and ignite a spark of hope like never before.
